She is drawn down the boardwalk towards the stunning Art Nouveau architecture of "The Charleston", built as a bathing establishment in 1913 and now a restaurant renamed Alle Terrazze.
While soaking in the beauty of her surroundings, she settles into a pose reminiscent of Michelangelo's David. Although she's a foreigner, she feels right at home.
However, a local guy has spotted her as a novelty in the neighborhood and has set himself on the walkway, anticipating a chance to cross her path...
I actually had the honor of exhibiting the collection of paintings here at The Charleston!
My beautiful friend Silvia used her negotiating skills and charm to help me convince the manager to make this happen!
I strung wire between the poles on the waterfront terrace so the pairs of paintings hovered above the tables and lounges. Looking back I can't believe this actually happened! In Mondello!
While all the original paintings from this series titled "It Happened in Mondello" found homes in Palermo, prints are available on my site in 2 formats. Either as one page laid out as a double spread with the title at the bottom (above), or as a set of two images (below).
