Malala Fund

Updated: Sep 14, 2022

This is a marker sketch of Malala Yousafzai, one of the most courageous people alive.

At the age of 15 she was intentionally targeted by the Taliban and shot in the head for speaking out and continuing to attend school after education for girls had been banned in Pakistan.

After 10 days in a coma and multiple surgeries, she miraculously survived with permanent nerve damage and loss of hearing on the left side of her face. Now safely living in England, she’s campaigning for 12 years of safe, quality education for every girl on the planet.

Education is the ticket to awareness, knowledge, and freedom from the confining roles imposed on women, especially in third world countries. By denying girls an education, their potential is stifled and they live in ignorance, never given the opportunity to discover and pursue their interests and imagine a life lived for themselves; never given the opportunity to instigate change. Instead being female often relegates them to being servants.

This subject really fires me up and I decided, starting in December 2020, to donate 10% of purchases from my business to the MALALA FUND. While my earnings are very modest at this stage, I feel like implementing this now gives me inspiration to grow my business for reasons beyond my own benefit.

I want to see all women spread their wings into the full spectrum of who they are and leave behind the rigid box of what a woman is supposed to be, whatever that is in the place where they come from. There is just not enough room in any box for a whole person, man or woman.
